The month of September came and I personally felt burnt out; I needed a season of rest. Everything for the past eight months focussed on personal development and growing a business. I didn’t have the energy to push forward anymore so I decided to just s t o p . There had been several ideas brewing in my mind and I was eager to make time for them at the cost of giving up my daily routine. Here’s what happened.
I felt awake creatively.
Each morning I woke up I didn’t have a clear direction for the day. I felt a little lost, but took this time to let myself play and channel that into creativity. I starting diving deep (really deep) into some new ideas I wanted to explore, pigments and painting. Creatively, I was awake and in tune with my studio and my work, something I haven’t experienced in a long time.
I built new opportunities.
It opened up a door to so many creative opportunities and gave me a place to stand as I begin to write a strong action plan for 2019. To be transparent, a lot of things on my to-do list went unchecked in September and my marketing efforts fell very short. But, I felt I needed this time to explore, feed myself creatively, and generate new opportunities moving forward.
I gained clarity on what works for me and what doesn’t.
Slowing down also provided me with clarity on what is working for me personally and what I may need to consider revising or removing entirely moving forward. When you start building a daily routine to encourage balance, there is a lot of research and taking advice from others on what they do and why they do it. Giving myself time to stick with a routine and then reflect on it, I am now able to understand what routines worked for me and what doesn’t feel natural. I also learned what things are non-negotiable and provide me with a constant balance throughout the week.
Post my month hiatus and a little time for play, I have a lot of really exciting things in the works that I don’t think would have come to me otherwise. Taking the time to drop my responsibilities as an entrepreneur gave me room to build new opportunities. Heading into the remainder of the year I am excited to revise my routine and create a strong actionable plan to keep my ideas and creativity protected.
